How to Quote a Window or Door Installation Job (With Checklist)
How window and door installers can quote accurately: measuring, product options, full-frame vs insert, trim, disposal and lead times.
Window and door quotes go wrong when measurements are off, the product is not specified or hidden rot appears. Use a checklist so every opening is captured.
On-site checklist
- Opening width and height, measured in more than one place
- Operation type (casement, slider, fixed, awning) and egress requirements
- Frame material, colour and glass package
- Existing frame, trim and siding or brick condition
- Floor level and access for ladders or scaffolds
- Photos of each opening
Insert or full-frame?
Insert replacement keeps the existing frame and costs less. Full-frame removes everything down to the studs and lets you fix flashing and rot. Quote both when the condition is uncertain.
Line items
- Product per opening
- Installation labour
- Insulation, flashing, sealant
- Interior trim and exterior capping or brick-mould
- Removal and disposal
- Permits where required
Lead times and deposits
Custom products are non-returnable. Take a deposit on order, state the lead time and what happens if the manufacturer delays. See getting paid on time.
Hidden conditions
Add a per-opening allowance for rot repair and handle extras through change orders.

Quote on the spot
Installers can use quoting software for window and door installers to list each opening with size and price and send it before leaving the site.
