Concrete and Asphalt Driveway Cost in Canada in 2026

2026 CAD price per square foot for concrete, asphalt, interlock and gravel driveways in Canada, with frost, drainage and removal costs that change the total.

A driveway is one of the biggest exterior investments in a home, and Canadian winters punish bad installs. Prices below are typical 2026 installed ranges. Your region, access and base conditions will move them.

Installed cost per square foot

  • Gravel: about $2–$6
  • Asphalt: about $4–$9
  • Poured concrete: about $8–$18, more for stamped or coloured finishes
  • Interlocking pavers: about $15–$35

A two-car driveway of about 600 square feet therefore ranges from roughly $2,500 in asphalt to $9,000 or more in concrete and over $15,000 in interlock.

What drives the price

Base preparation

A properly compacted granular base, sized for frost, is what keeps a driveway flat. Skipping it is the number one cause of cracking and heaving.

Excavation and removal

Tearing out and disposing of an old driveway commonly adds $1–$4 per square foot.

Drainage and slope

Water must flow away from the house. Regrading, culverts or drains add cost but prevent basement problems: see basement waterproofing.

Thickness and reinforcement

Concrete is commonly 4 to 5 inches with wire mesh or rebar and control joints. Heavier vehicles need more.

Season

Asphalt and concrete have temperature limits. Quote the likely installation window.

Municipal rules

Many municipalities regulate driveway width, curb cuts and permeable surface area. Check before quoting.
